Magical Tools, Relics, Original Fine Art and Curiosities
Hello, my name is Syd. I am an artist with a penchant for treasure hunting. WYTCH is a platform from which I use to share my work, the work of other artists that I admire, and I also sell some of my treasure here.
My passion is for painting and photography - I am a better photographer that painter. For the last few years, I have been concentrating on painting liquid emulsion onto antique mirrors, and projecting one of my negatives onto the coated surface. Thus, effectively turning the mirror into a photograph. My latest exhibition, held at Dimbola Museum and Galleries, was called ‘Light Bends in Imaginary Gardens’ and featured the aforementioned mirrors.
Of late, I have attempted to categorize the aesthetic that I tend to gravitate toward, and (whilst it’s a tad clumsy) come up with the term - ‘Acid Folk Art’<. I’m currently working on putting a groups show together, for artists sharing a kinship with that aesthetic. I am gathering work, and creating new work of my own.
Both the ‘Art Gallery’< and ‘Antiques Shop’<sections have just been replenished.
I believe that magic is art, and that art, whether that be music, writing, sculpture, or any other form, is literally magic. Art is, like magic, the science of manipulating symbols, words or images, to achieve changes in consciousness… Indeed to cast a spell is simply to spell, to manipulate words, to change peoples consciousness, and this is why I believe that an artist or writer is the closest thing in the contemporary world to a shaman.
